Propolis extracts’ standardization? Now it’s possible

new study has been published on the journal “Materials”, with the aim to demonstrate that the multi dynamic extraction (M.E.D.) method produces standardized polyphenolic mixtures from poplar-type Propolis, with reproducible chemical composition and anti-microbial activity, independently from the chemical composition of the starting raw propolis.
Bees produce Propolis by collecting and re-processing the resin from the buds of many different plants, depending on location, climate, season… This variability in “sourcing” produces variability in the active components (polyphenols) of propolis, both quantitative and qualitative, affecting the activity of the extracts and the final products.
The problem of standardizing Propolis extracts while maintaining the completeness of it components has been a problem that seemed unsolvable until now.
At last, this important study demonstrates how – thanks to the multi-dynamic extraction (M.E.D.) developed and patented by B Natural – it is possible to guarantee a precise characterization and standardization of Propolis extracts, despite the use of raw propolis from different parts of the world.
M.E.D. Propolis’ extracts have a standardization based on 6 markers, typical of the brown propolis normally found in the European temperate zone. Thanks to this standardization it will be possible to formulate and test precise dosages, demonstrating the activity of the extracts in connection to a dose/activity ratio of a specific polyphenol complex. This will certainly allow a larger use of Propolis extracts in nutraceutical products and medical devices, leveraging its  well-known  antimicrobial and antioxidant activity.
