American Apitherapy Society: The Latest News for You! 🐝
,
On March 11, 2020 - The World Health Organization Announced:

We have never before seen a pandemic sparked by a coronavirus. This is the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus, and we have never before seen a pandemic that can be controlled at the same time.

Here are links to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. We have also added these links to the AAS website for your convenience.

In addition, many events around the world are now canceled or postponed including Apitherapy conferences. We will do our best to keep our events page updated.

On behalf of the American Apitherapy Society - we wish you all good health. Bee Well!
Unfortunately, coronavirus and COVID -19 have become words that we are all too familiar with. Currently there is not a vaccine to prevent or a cure for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent it is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases. Many of our readers have asked AAS - 'how do products of the hive help us with COVID-19?' Of course the stronger your immune system the better to fight the fight. Products of the hive are very beneficial to our immune system. In some countries the bee pollen has been recognized as food and medicine. Bee pollen contains at least 22 amino acids, 18 vitamins, 25 minerals, 59 trace elements, 11 enzymes or coenzymes, 14 fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates and approximately 25.00% protein. Bee pollen is extremely rich in carotenes, which are metabolic precursors of vitamin A. It is also high in vitamin B complex and vitamins C, D, E and lecithin. Bee pollen contains over 50.00% more protein than beef, yet its fat content is very low. Bee pollen contains digestive enzymes from the bees. Pollen may be used to improve the immune response, to reduce the effect of radiation and retards aging because of its antioxidant and flavonoid contents. Honey has been used since ancient times as part of traditional medicine. Several functions such as antibacterial, antioxidant, antitumour, anti-inflamatory, antibrowning, and antiviral have been reported. Royal jelly contains considerable amounts of proteins, amino acids including eight essential amino acids,15 hormone rich substance (testosterone) has been identified in extremely small quantities in royal jelly about 12 mg g-1fresh weight. Royal jelly also contains vitamins: A, C, D, E, minerals are in descending order: K, Ca, Na, Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn, enzymes and antibiotic components. It also has an abundance of nucleic acid DNA and RNA. Royal jelly has been determined to exhibit a variety of pharmacological activities including antitumor, antimicrobial, antioxidant activity, vasodilative and hypotensive activities, as well as growth stimulating and infection preventing, anti-hypercholesterolemic and anti-inflammatory activities. NCBI

Flattening the Curve for COVID-19: What Does It Mean and How Can You Help?
and compelling headline
Cruises and flights canceled. Colleges and universities sending students home to watch lectures online. Public schools closing. Offices asking people to telecommute. Concerts, parades, festivals and sporting events postponed. Is all of this really necessary for the coronavirus? Are public health officials overreacting to the threat posed by the virus that causes the disease COVID-19?

It’s absolutely necessary, because it’s worked in the past, says medical historian Howard Markel, M.D., Ph.D., a University of Michigan expert who has studied the effects of similar responses to past epidemics.

Manuka Honey in High Demand Due to COVID -19 Outbreak
Since the start of the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus (Also known as the Corona Virus), Manuka Honey has seen sales increase at around 100%. This rather significant spike in its demand has undoubtedly due to its “Superfood” status as seen by its many users globally. It is easy to see why this is the case when we delve deeper into its renowned properties.

Almond Farming Killing American Bees
'California’s almond business has skyrocketed in the past 20 years — it’s now an $11 billion industry — and the space taken up by almond groves in the state’s Central Valley is approximately the size of Delaware. But almond orchards cannot function without bee pollination, and heavy volumes of pesticides used on and near almond crops are killing bees.'
Let Us Not Forget Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick of Ireland
According to the autobiographical Confessio of Patrick, when he was about 16, he was captured by Irish pirates from his home in Britain and taken as a slave to Ireland, looking after animals; he lived there for six years before escaping and returning to his family. After becoming a cleric, he returned to northern and western Ireland. In later life, he served as a bishop, but little is known about the places where he worked. By the seventh century, he had already come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland.
Saint Patrick's Day is observed on 17 March, the supposed date of his death. It is celebrated inside and outside Ireland as a religious and cultural holiday. In the dioceses of Ireland, it is both a solemnity and a holy day of obligation; it is also a celebration of Ireland itself.
